Club Infantil: Nicaraguan kids in action
Imagine a future where we are all aware of the conditions and potential of marginalized segments of society. For the past eighteen years, Club Infantil in Jinotega, Nicaragua, has been tirelessly working towards this vision.
With direct and outspoken views on children’s and women’s rights, Club Infantil makes a significant difference in Jinotega. The organisation has orchestrated several political actions, such as demonstrations, discussions, and charity events, all aimed at achieving its vision. As a result of this vital work, Club Infantil has positively impacted the political and social consciousness in its community.
How Does Club Infantil Positively Impact Jinotega?
Club Infantil provides extensive psychological and legal support for aggrieved children, young people, and women. They also run a radio station and a small TV production, which airs twice a month on a national television station. Thirty children from diverse and challenging social backgrounds produce journalistic pieces that present critical views on their society and the problems they face in their daily lives.
This approach of producing critical journalistic pieces and raising awareness of media and its social impact aligns with the overarching vision of Media for Peace, the foundational philosophy of Xchange Perspectives.
One Xchange Perspectives member, Kai, volunteered for over three months with this incredible project, facilitating journalistic training and workshops for the children of Jinotega. This collaboration has paved the way for future cooperation between Club Infantil and Xchange Perspectives, fostering the implementation of additional media projects in Jinotega, Nicaragua, and Central America. These initiatives challenge the current media landscape and offer peaceful alternatives.
Future potential projects with Club Infantil could include journalistic training on theoretical, practical, and technical bases, documentary production, and potentially a political telenovela that explains regional issues and offers peaceful solutions for the future.
